Semonti Mustaphi, a 2003 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, was recently named Deputy Press Secretary for first lady in waiting, Michelle Obama.
The Gustavus women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Macalester squad and lost its first conference game of the year by the score of 88-71 in St. Paul. The Scots shot 61.5 percent from the field (16-26) and made 19-of-29 free throws in the second half to pull away from the Gusties who fell out of first place with the loss. Ann Baltzer led the Scots with 26 points, while Emily Nelson led Gustavus with 19 points.
The Gustavus men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 91-37 win over Macalester College at Gus Young Court on Monday night. Head Coach Mark Hanson's squad were 37-for-65 from the floor for a 56.9 shooting percentage and forced the Scots to commit 23 turnovers, resulting in 37 Gustie points. The Gustavus reserves poured in 60 points as Tyler Grey and Seth Anderson scored off of the bench to lead the team with 10 points apiece.
