Prärieblomman, 1900-1913.  LCA Collection 58.  1 Hollinger box.

ABSTRACT:
Prärieblomman (The Prairie Flower) was a Swedish language publication distributed each December by the Lutheran Augustana Book Concern.  The annual was intended for the Swedish-American community and featured historical articles, biographies, reproductions of photographs and paintings, and functioned as a calendar.  Prärieblomman acted as a Swedish-American counterpart to national Swedish annuals, featuring numerous Swedish-American authors and artists.  Many cite Prärieblomman as a display of immigrant resistance to fully comply with the dominant American culture and as an effort to create a unique Swedish-American tradition.
