ABSTRACT:
The Commission to Study the Place of Gustavus in Life of the Church collection contains surveys, correspondence, minutes, and the Commission’s reports. The body was formed by the Lutheran Minnesota Conference after the April 1951 convention. The purpose of the Commission was to study moral and social problems, such as attitudes towards social dancing and drinking, at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Commission surveyed alumni, pastors, and laymen about their opinions of Gustavus, and they looked into how other colleges were dealing with similar problems. Commission members were Rev. Ernest G. Anderson, Rev. William Siegel, Mr. M.L. Malmquist, Rev. E.H. Baker, Mrs. Morton V. Bjorkquist, Mrs. John S. Benson, and Conference President Dr. Emil Swenson (Ex-Officio).
