Requirements for professional schools vary from school to school and can change year by year, students must carefully examine the pre-requisite requirements of the schools they are interested in to be current and accurate when registering for courses at Gustavus. Consult the American Association of Colleges (AACOM) Osteopathic Medical College Information Book for requirements and admission statistics to the 30+ Osteopathic programs.
First Year: Fall
BIO 101 Principles of Biology (MCAT)
CHE 107 Principles of Chemistry (MCAT)
FTS 100 (Writing Intensive course- WRITI)
S/A 112 Principles of Sociology or PSY 100 General Psychology (MCAT)
First Year: Spring
BIO 102 Organismal Biology (MCAT)
CHE 141 Organic Chemistry I (MCAT)

BIO 201 Cell and Molecular Biology (recommended) (MCAT recommended) (serve as a pre-requisite for BIO 374 and BIO 380)

*Depending on what DO programs you are applying to the English requirement may vary (composition or literature). FTS 100 will count as one composition course for the ENG requirement. Typically two ENG courses are required.
Fourth Year:
*ALL courses listed below for the Fourth Year are recommended if planning to apply to both DO programs and MD regional programs. The below requirements are specific for MD programs (Creighton and the University of MN).
*Elective- Humanities or Social Science upper level course, with an intensive writing requirement, WRITD. (U of M requirement- "upper level courses are typically those with a course number of 300 or higher. Writing intensive courses are ones in which writing is an integral part of the course. Typically, you're required to complete at least one, 10 page paper.") U of M accepts a Gustavus 200 level Humanities or Social Science with the writing component for this requirement as well as a 300 level course.
*MCS 142 Introduction to Statistics (or equivalent recommended, Creighton requirement)
*Creighton Requirement: Human/Animal Physiology at the advanced level. Creighton accepts HES 234 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (Fall only) + HES 235 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (Spring only) to fulfill requirement - OR - BIO 386 Comparative Physiology (Spring only).
