Beginning November 5, 2010, the Gustavus Adolphus College History Department will begin reviewing applications for to positions, to begin September 1, 2011: a position in Twentieth Century United States, and a position in colonialism/imperialism. Twentieth Century United States History

Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of 20th Century U.S. History in the Department of History to begin September 1, 2011.

We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status, in one of the following areas: U.S. in a global context, the environment, and/or popular culture. The successful candidate should have an interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues.

Primary responsibilities will include the U.S. survey, intermediate and upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, the seminar for history majors, and supervision of honors theses.  Other responsibilities will include contributing to the College’s First Term Seminar and Curriculum II general education programs. A commitment to teaching and advising is essential.

Colonialism/Imperialism

Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of colonialism/imperialism in the Department of History to begin September 1, 2011.

We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status, with a focus on the relationship between Europe and sub-Saharan Africa or the Middle East. The successful candidate should have an interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues.

Primary responsibilities will include a one-semester survey of the history of sub-Saharan Africa or the Middle East, a one-semester survey of European history since 1648, and intermediate and upper level courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Other responsibilities will include contributing to the College’s First Term Seminar and Curriculum II general education programs. A commitment to effective teaching and advising is essential.
