Committee Descriptions and Responsibilities
Executive Board
The Executive Board is comprised of the Crossroads Program Coordinator, the co-chairs from each of the five committees and the faculty and Residential Life advisors. The Executive Board works as a team to create the Crossroads Events Calendar, makes decisions about co-sponsorship of non-Crossroads events, votes on the distribution of the Crossroads Program programming budget, and is responsible for the overall success of The Crossroads Program.
Program Coordinator
This person is in charge of organizing the Crossroads Program in a way that ensures its success. Duties include but are not limited to training Executive Board members, running Executive Board meetings, providing program goals, recording committee meeting and event attendance, assessing past and future events and answering any questions that may arise from Crossroads members and the Executive Board.
Finance Manager
This person is responsible for recording and monitoring the annual budget and distributing funds for programs and events. This person is also in charge of funds generated from My Favorite Student care-package sales.
Cultural Celebrations Committee
- Responsible for hosting international ethnic, religious, and cultural events for the college community
- Previous events have included Ramadan, Diwali, Cinco de Mayo, Cultural Harvest Festival and Passover.
Global Awareness Committee
- Responsible for facilitating the discussion of current international issues and their ramifications on the global community.
- Previous programs have included Around the World in 60 minutes and Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.
Cultural Peer Educators
- Responsible for creating and facilitating intercultural workshops and discussions designed to inform, educate, and challenge the students of Gustavus in a more one-on-one setting.
- Work closely with Residential Life, Head Residents, Collegiate Fellows, First Term Seminar faculty, and the leadership of other student organizations in order to assess student need and plan workshops.
In-House Committee
- Responsible for hosting events in the Carlson International Center that fosters community and provides an opportunity for students to share their individual stories, cultures, and histories.
- Previous programs include Progressive Desserts, an International Film Festival, and Study Abroad Night.
Public Relations Committee
- Responsible for gathering information about upcoming Crossroads Program events and creating a comprehensive public relations and advertising plan, including posters, table tents, slides, and submitting event information to both the Gustavus-L and Faculty-L. Also responsible for advertising The Crossroads Program itself.
- Other duties include management of the program website calendar and submitting a monthly article to the Diversity Newsletter.
- Work closely with The Crossroads Program Advisors in order to maximize the impact of The Crossroads Program.
