- The goal of this organization is to pursue a comprehensive understanding of poetic movements and forms, to study the work of both renowned and underappreciated poets, and to cultivate the poetic talents of the individual members through the use of writing workshops and group collaboration. The organization will seek to develop a platform for the creation and sharing of poetry within the Gustavus community.

ARTICLE I - Purpose Section 1: Name. The organization shall be known as the Poetry Exploration Club. Section 2: Purpose & Objectives.The organization shall pursue a comprehensive understanding of poetic movements and forms, to study the work of both renowned and underappreciated poets, and to cultivate the poetic talents of the individual members through the use of writing workshops and group collaboration. The organization will seek to develop a platform for the creation and sharing of poetry within the Gustavus community. Section 2: The organization will sponsor guest artists from outside of Gustavus to come meet with the organization. Guest speakers will be welcomed to speak on their areas of expertise, any professional poets will be encouraged to do a reading of their work and share their experiences with the organization. Guest poets are welcome to lead workshops and perform for the Gustavus Community. The workshops will either be capped at a certain attendance or left open depending on the visiting speaker’s preference. ARTICLE III - Membership Section 1: Any full-time Gustavus Adolphus student may become a member of the organization by notifying any of those holding leadership positions within said organization. One must attend more than one third of the weekly meetings to be considered a member, to vote, and to hold office. Section 2: Non-Discrimination Clause. The Poetry Exploration Club will not discriminate against any Gustavus Adolphus students who wish to attend on the basis of race, gender, gender identity. sexual orientation, disability, political persuasion ARTICLE IV - Officer Position Section 1: The Officer position shall consist of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Risk Manager. Section 2: President. The President shall organize meetings, meet with advisor to develop direction for meetings. Section 3: Vice President. The Vice President shall assist the President by acting as liaison between potential members, members, and the president while also contributing to the direction of the organization. Section 4: Treasurer. Coordinate efforts with Student Senate to attain funding for the organization’s activities. Section 5: Secretary. The Secretary shall relay noteworthy information and announcements to all members. Section 7: Election Process. There shall be an anonymous voting process which all verified members of the organizations have the right to vote for as well as run for office at the end of each school year. If any officers resign during the school year, another election may be held to fill that position. Any officers who resign should give at least two weeks notice so that their position within the organization does not remain vacant for too long a time. ARTICLE V - Meetings Section I: Meetings will be held weekly for all members. Executive Board members will meet once a month in order to organize plans for the following month. Every meeting will have a discussion component in which members can share their thoughts and opinions on a predetermined topic. Discussion topics may be anything from specific, poets, poetic movements, to certain styles and more. Every meeting will have a writing component. ARTICLE VI - Advisors. The club will have a faculty advisor who also has a strong interest in poetry. It will be student run and community driven while taking counsel from the Advisor. The Advisor retains the right to sit in on any meetings they wish to attend. The president of the organization will meet with the faculty advisor regularly to generate ideas and collaborate on the content and direction of the organization with the faculty advisor. ARTICLE VII-Finances: Section 1: Funding for the organization will come either from fundraising on behalf of the members and by requesting funds from the Gustavus Student Senate, including any fundraisers planned by the treasurer. Section 2: Upon the dissolution of this organization, any and all financial assets will be surrendered to the Student Senate. ARTICLE VIII - Constitutional Amendments: Section 1: Any member in good standing within the organization has the right to propose an amendment to the constitution. These proposals must be submitted to the Executive Board at least two weeks before voting on the issue will occur. Section 2: All members in good standing within the organization have the right to vote on the amendment, but must be present at the meeting in which the voting takes place in order for their vote to apply. A ⅔ majority is needed for any amendment to pass Section 3: Any amendments ratified will begin to take effect at the end of the meeting wherein the amendment was passed.
