Gustavus Barbell Club Constitution

ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Gustavus Barbell Club
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
The purpose of the Gustavus Barbell Club (GBC) is to make the weightlifting community at Gustavus more accessible, inclusive, and safe.
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Any GAC student interested in weightlifting and/or learning more about weightlifting may be a member. The GBC as an organization will not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, gender identity, disability status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or weight.
Section 2. The following categories of membership exist in the GBC:
A. Experienced lifters (as determined by criteria set by co-presidents)
B. Inexperienced/recreational lifters
Section 3. Members are accepted continuously throughout the year so long as theyare in good standing with the College.
Section 4. A member may remain in good standing so long as they are in good standing with the College.
ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS
Section 1. The following officer positions shall exist in the GBC: Co-president (identifies as female), Co-president (identifies as male), Secretary, Treasurer, and Risk Manager. If no qualified parties are interested this requirement may be waived with a majority agreement. All officers must be full-time students in good standing and enrolled at GAC.
Section 2. Each Executive Board member will be elected for the following academic year by majority vote at least three weeks before the final day of classes.
Section 3. Any officer failing to maintain membership in good standing may be removed by majority vote. Resignation or removal of an officer from their position before the close of the academic year will result in another majority vote.
Section 4. The duties of each office are described as follows:
A. Co-presidents
1. To organize and preside over meetings
2. To function as spokespeople For the GBC
3. To facilitate communication between executive board members
4. To work with the advisor and other executive board members to create yearly goals for the organization
5. To facilitate monthly Executive Board meetings
B. Secretary
1. To keep a written record of what happened at all monthly GBC executive meetings
2. To keep club members informed of upcoming meetings and events
3. To assist in the development of yearly organizational goals
4. To attend monthly executive board meetings
C. Treasurer
1. To maintain the finances of the GBC and keep accurate records of all financial matters
2. To coordinate any fundraising efforts
3. To assist in the development of yearly organizational goals
4. To attend monthly executive board meetings
D. Risk Manager
1. To relay and understand the Risk Management Policies and enforce them in the GBC’s activities and events
2. Determine which events require a Risk Management Plan and fill our required forms
3. To assist in the development of yearly organizational goals
4. To attend monthly executive board meetings
ARTICLE V: MEETINGS
Section 1. Executive Board members will meet at the beginning of each semester to set monthly meeting times during the academic year. The Co-Presidents will set the agenda for the meetings with input from Executive Board members.
Section 2. Decisions are made by majority vote.
Section 3. The Co-Presidents have the capability of calling special meetings for any matters they feel cannot wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting.
ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section 1. The Executive Board shall be comprised of the Co-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Risk Manager.
Section 2. The Executive Board shall meet once a month to discuss the planning of club events and develop organizational goals.
ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES
Section 1. The Executive Board may create Special Committees on an as needed basis.
ARTICLE VIII: FINANCES
Section 1. Funds of the organization shall be raised primarily through fundraising.
Section 2. Upon dissolution of the GBC, any financial assets will be credited to the Gustavus Student Senate.
ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS
Section 1. All members of the GBC that are in good standing may propose amendments. The proposed amendments will be reviewed by the Executive Board members and submitted to members in writing before voting is to take place.
Section 2. All members in good standing are eligible to vote.
Section 3. If amendments are passed they take effect at the end of the meeting during which they are passed.
