Health Promotion Screening
What is it?
Health screening at Gustavus has become an annual event and a great benefit to all Gustavus employees and spouses. Participating in the health screening is an important step in the process of preventative health care. Diseases related to lifestyle are among the most costly in terms of quality of life, length of life, and money. We are fortunate to be able to give employees the tools and resources to be proactive in their health. Participating in a health screening is only one step in a journey to a healthy life, but it is an investment worth taking!
Who can participate?
All Gustavus employees and spouses are invited to participate in the Health Screening Free of charge!
When and where is it?
The health screening will be available to employees and spouses at the River’s Edge Hospital and Clinic Lab Feb.1 – Feb 5, 2010 and Feb. 8 – Feb. 12, 2010. Sign up times are from 6:30-9:00am. Thirty minutes of release time will be available for the screening and a free bagel coupon for the Market Place will be given out at the screening.
What is included in the health screening?
This private and confidential screening will include a blood pressure check and the collection of a small amount of blood. In order for the blood draw to be accurate, the participant must FAST for 12 hours before the blood is drawn. The blood will be collected at the St. Peter hospital and analyzed by the St. Peter Hospital Lab for glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides. Individual results will be sent directly to participants and one copy will remain on file at the hospital. Gustavus will NOT see any individual results. All participants are strongly encouraged to share their individual results with their doctor.
*For men PSA Test also available. Men over 50 choosing to have this test, are advised to discuss this test with their personal physician. Since a physical examination must always accompany this test, results will only be sent to the participants physician. (The participant must bring the physicians name and address to the health screening so that the results can be sent immediately to the physician provided) GHP will pay for the test, but not the examination with the physician.
How do I sign up?
