AboutWellbeing

The Wellbeing Initiative is committed to providing programs, services, and resources that create a culture in which you can make informed and proactive decisions about your personal and community wellbeing. We use evidence-based practices, recognize national health observances, and apply College-specific health behavior data to create programming tailored to the Gustavus community. We recognize that wellbeing is a vital part of learning, and our work helps to extend learning beyond the classroom. We hope you take advantage of the information and opportunities available to maximize your Gustavus experience.
Vision
The Gustavus community thrives with purpose, vitality, and connection to meet the challenges of a world in need.
Mission
The Wellbeing Initiative promotes optimal living through education, research, and engagement programs that support personal discovery, holistic health, and lifelong learning.
History
Reverend Eric Norelius established Gustavus Adolphus College with a mission grounded in leadership and service. Norelius, a Lutheran pastor and founder of the nation’s largest social service agency, demonstrated tremendous capacity to look beyond himself and focus on the needs of others—whether they were immigrant college students or orphaned children. His legacy of leadership and service is a tangible example of wellbeing: choosing authentic self-expression and meaningful action to create happiness, health, and comfort in the world.
Today, members of the College community are called to be stewards of the Norelius legacy. Through the Wellbeing Initiative, Gustavus students, employees, alumni, and friends are encouraged to live with vision, courage, compassion, and integrity for the wellbeing of all.
